As I wrote in my previous post, there is going to be AIGLX support from AMD/ATI video cards.

Well, first of all I wasn’t expecting AIGLX support from AMD/ATI this year. But it seems that I am wrong … at least I really hope so. The question being asked by me is if so, it means no more Xgl for running Compiz Fusion for ATI cards, considering the 8.42 drivers are for most R300-to-600 cards, and even older ones, and AIGLX is thus supported on all of them. So what then is going to happen to Xgl. If AIGLX is there is next version, this means that we (ATI card users) from now on don’y need to launch the command gnome-xgl-switch –enable-xgl and that Compiz +Fusion will work just by installing the driver itself (maybe with few mods to xorg.conf file)?
Is running Compiz via AIGLX will be faster than Xgl, in terms of rendering, or there is no difference …. confused?
BTW, as far
Being frank I slept just couple of hours today and the news for me about the ATI and AIGLX there in driver got me all confused … what a mess in my head. Pheww … at least I have clear idea of Compiz and ……
I am not a techie guy, in terms of drivers, so if I am wriitng some gibberish then let me know :-p
If all goes down nice, as we have seen from latest 8.41 drivers, which according to phoronix.com for 8.41 has seen a perfomance bump of 50% or so, which is really excellent news and now with AIGLX support, maybe my next video card will be again from ATI.
